The scheduled visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Cyprus today has been postponed, due to the need for her immediate return to Italy from Athens following the very serious incident that occurred in Modena, which resulted in a number of civilians being injured, according to Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis.
As Letymbiotis stated in a written statement, “the Italian Prime Minister will travel urgently to Modena, together with the President of the Italian Republic, in order to be close to the injured, their families and the local community.”
He added that Prime Minister Meloni’s visit to Cyprus will be rescheduled at a mutually agreed date.
“The Republic of Cyprus attaches particular importance to the further strengthening of relations between Cyprus and Italy, as well as to our common European and regional coordination,” the Government Spokesperson noted.
“The Republic of Cyprus expresses its solidarity with the Government, the people of Italy and all those affected by this tragic incident,” he concluded.
