BUTTERNUT, Wis. (WJFW) — Last month four astronauts made their way around the moon in Artemis 2, sparking more interest in space around the world.
One local organization, Dream Flight USA is also bringing wonder to space through a remodeled motor coach.
The founder, Sharon Ryan, says it’s designed to teach kids about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through hands-on space themed experiments.
“Get them excited about having fun learning, follow that dream,” Ryan said. “We want them to learn things here so they are excited about school, excited about a fun day, and kids love space, so I picked the space theme.”
The Stem Shuttle is mobile, traveling all around Wisconsin. This mission was at the Butternut School District where fourth through eighth graders worked together to learn about space.
The pilot of the shuttle, Terry Whitmore, says kids focus on experiments such as learning about the pull of gravity.
“Certainly, in space there is a lack of that, so with this experiment these kids really get to feel gravity and the pull on the pennies in this experiment,” Whitmore said.
Other experiments include showing students how some medicine can only be made in space with no gravity. If any teachers or school districts are interested in having the shuttle stop by their school can reach out to the Dream Flight USA Foundation.
