Could introducing wild Irish-Wolfhounds into the countryside solve Ireland’s sika deer problem?

  1. They’re not wild though, how would you make them wild? Just turn a few domesticated ones loose and see what happen?

  2. Irish wolfhounds went extinct, except one breeder decided if he mixed together a bunch of different breeds to “bring them back”

I think OP is mixing them up for wolves.

  3. Where does it end we would have to introduce wolves to hunt the dogs then bears to hunt the wolves then Russians to hunt the bears then Ukrainans to hunt the Russians. Also more forests and wild areas are all we have is bare farmland only good for cattle

  4. Thats a great idea ya. Having packs of 7 foot tall feral dogs running around the countryside is a way better idea.

  5. Sadly their not even the native Irish wolfhound it’s long gone apparently and this is a mix breed of sorts with great dane and other breeds, pretty shite to be honest since they look badass! Think the true Irish wolfhound was more slimmer body and not shaggy kinda like a big greyhound! They guy that made the modern breed we see today was from Gloucestershire, captain George Augustus Graham sadly in 1800s

  6. Introducing Domesticated animals, that you expect to hunt deer?

Is this a yank that made this post or what

Putting a domesticated animal into the wild, doesn’t make it wild. There are no wild Irish wolfhounds left and making them would take considerable effort over several generations

  7. What do you mean “introduce” them? Like, as if it’s a playdate???

I think throwing a pack of a domesticated animal might cause more problems than it’d solve

  8. Yea that should be no problem as after that we have sourced a type of gorilla that thrives on dog meat. The beautiful thing is in winter the gorillas simply freeze to death.

  9. Modern Irish wolfhounds are a complete modern reinvention through breeding. That’s why they have such bad health.

I’d imagine it would take them many generations to become wild again.

  10. I’m currently over stocked on massive dogs but I will be def be getting one of them in a few years, he’s beautiful. It’s such a shame that the original wolfhounds were allowed to go extinct

  11. Feral dogs in the countryside haha. They’ll kill half a farmers flock of sheep for fun and they’ll be shot or poisoned out of existence after a week.

  12. Actual Irish wolf hounds are extinct. Brits killed them off hundred of years ago.
The modern one we see today was bred about 40/50 years ago as an attempt to recreate the aesthetic. In reality it’s a much smaller and more timid mongrel dog.

  13. Irish wolfhounds have a genetic predisposition to many life threatening and quality of life reducing conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, cardiomyopathy, osteosarcoma, liver shunt, autoimmune thyroiditis, von Willebrand’s disease, progressive retinal atrophy and gastric torsion. They shouldn’t be bread pure, it’s neglectful cruelty, unfortunately.
