Outrage over Boris Johnson plan to abolish Downing Street ethics monitor

  1. Right wingers – claiming they are patriotic and the left arnt, whilst dismantling every institution and rulebook 1 by 1 that actually made us great.

  2. I mean, he might as well right? They are doing whatever they want anyway and nobody is stopping them so what’s the difference?

  3. I’ve been in the country two years and I can tell you he will do it and no one is going to do anything about it. Yeah there will be an internal enquiry. Then a report and maybe even a vote. But it’s all a farce.

  4. To be fair I agree with Bojo on this one. No point wasting money if you’re just going to ignore it anyway. Save the money I say.

  5. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

This is a really really slow-motion V for Vendetta.
They’re doing it so slowly so no one really stirs into action against it or connects the dots.

Make the whole drama boring and sprinkle in quirky moments of drama and pretty much no one will see what’s really happening.

  6. Outrage sure… but no one can honestly say they’re surprised at this point. Nothing it going to stop this morally bankrupt wank stain of a man tearing apart democracy until he forced out for office.

  7. Translation: he knows how hard (and embarrassing) it will be to find **A THIRD** ethics advisor.

  8. Yet again Boris proves he’s a bad judge of character. Twice he’s appointed ethics advisors who turned out to actually have ethics! Surely if he’s so smart he would appoint a fellow heartless psycho!

  9. Well in its current setup, the post is useless because you’ve got an immoral narcissist in charge that’d do anything to stay in power.

And the thing is, this could happen all over again with another immoral leader.

So it’s right the role is reformed but if the role is given no teeth and what the rules are are pathetic, then it’s a bigger problem. I have no faith Boris will do the right thing in this regard. It will have to be his successor.

The next tory in charge has to realise this cuts both ways as well. If they make the rules so limp it could benefit a future Labour leader as much as it benefitted Boris. The rules need to be of high standard and have teeth to enforce it and launch independent investigations as and when required.

  10. That’s the first honest thing he’s done in a long time: accept that an ethics adviser is pointless because he never listens to them anyway.

  11. Johnson having an ethics advisor can only have been an homage to Sisyphus.

Johnson always did love the Greek classics.
