The U.S. military confirmed that Marines intercepted and searched an Iranian-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on May 20 while officials said the vessel was suspected of violating sanctions-related restrictions. After inspection, the ship was released but ordered to alter its course and central Command also noted that 91 commercial vessels have been redirected in recent operations, underscoring Washington’s tightening enforcement over maritime movement near critical energy routes.
“American forces released the vessel after searching and directing the ship’s crew to alter course,” said Central Command, which oversees U.S. forces in the region, in a post on X.
