You think that’s bad, you should see what they do to child gymnasts in places like China and Russia!
But then again, I’m sure Britain is also to blame for the abuse Chinese and Russian child gymnasts experience(!)
>Before 2008, no British gymnast had ever won an Olympic medal. Since then Team GB has won 16 medals in the last four Games
That’s the problem, I seriously don’t give a stuff about medals, or elite sports in general, it should be for fun and fitness, even more so when you are talking about children.
You’d have thought gymnast coaches would be more flexible.
I’m not supprised, this and ballet have had an iffy reputation for a while
I’m beginning to think a sport built on driving pre-pubescent children beyond their physical limits might not be a good idea
So we’re slowly but surely turning into China?
And I remember when this country was slagging off Russia & China, saying how they treat there Gymnasts, with strict diets, and getting really told of if there weight had charge an stuff, when this country had been doing it all along.
Wow, what’s next? Putting ’em on a plane to Rwanda?
Just ban competitive gymnastics at this point. The amount of abuse that has been revealed in various countries is ridiculous.
In so many areas today we’re not allowing children to enjoy their childhood anymore, to enjoy the innocence and fun of being a kid before they move into the adult world and all the crap that goes with that. Most of the time it’s interference from sections of the adult world using kids to further their own agenda. Give the the poor little sods 13 odd years of enjoyment before they get all the shit of adulthood and then at least they’ll have some happy memories to fall back on.
If the Soviet years taught us anything, it’s that abuse and fear wins Olympic medals and with funding so closely tied to winning, this kind of thing was inevitable.
