PARIS, Ill. (WAND) – The City of Paris has closed its beach after high levels of coliform were detected in the water.
According to the New York State Department of Health, coliform is bacteria present in human and animal waste, along with plant and soil material, and can also include bacteria like E. coli.
It is unclear what specific bacteria were detected.
The City said in a Facebook post that the beach will stay closed until samples are tested with satisfactory results.
The Paris Communications Director told WAND News that the only affected area where swimming is allowed is the east lake side of Twin Lakes Park.
