Kerry and Donegal meet in the most anticipated match-up of the first round of the All-Ireland Football Championship at Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney.
Donegal travel to the heartland of the All-Ireland champion, having bested Jack O’Connor’s side in the National Football League final at Croke Park earlier in the season.
However, fans will not be allowed to forget last summer’s visit to the same venue, when the Kingdom reigned supreme in a convincing All-Ireland final win against Jim McGuinness charges.
The manner of that league final win led some to believe they were fallible in Munster and that Cork were the coming force.
However, the Kingdom dispatched the Rebels in efficient fashion in the final for a sixth straight provincial title, lifting the inaugural Páidí Ó Sé Cup in the process.
In Ulster, Donegal’s fortunes were quite different as they suffered a shock defeat to Down.
They could not have been handed a tougher draw in the opening round of the All-Ireland Championship, especially with Michael Langan a doubt due to an injury suffered in the build-up to the Down match.
