Bringing native lynx and wolves back to Ireland could help curb damaging deer, research finds

  1. Then when the wolf population explodes and the farmers are mad because of lost live stock, we can start the culling of them. Yeah get more hunters people want to shoot and eat deer… shocking i know

  2. I am gonna get mauled to fuck trying to rub lynx bellies. I can’t be trusted not to bolt after one if I see it. I have inverse prey-drive.

  3. I’d look forward to the vast array of inevitable Darwin awards that would be doled out…

But seriously… can we not just find a way to give the deer birth control or fix them? I realise that sounds silly, but wouldn’t that be quite a bit less hassle?

  4. Hmm…while I don’t see a problem with lynx, wolves will be opposed by farmers. There are a few in Germany now, and the farmers there are making a huge fuss about it. They claim that they hunt sheep, rather then wild game.

  5. I feel this is a bad idea.
It works with yellowstone as the have the space and won’t come into contact with humans that often. This will just lead to pets and livestock being eaten.
We are a small island. Just let people hunt the deer a little more often.

  6. I’d love them to be back, but it’s a bad idea. In the northwest at least the wild red deer were at some point in the past bred with elk. Because of this the animals are much larger and better built than regular red deer and would be a prey of last resort for predators, who’d go after sheep and cattle instead. It’s just asking for trouble.

  7. Why bring in wolves and lynx to curb deer damage when the same thing can be done by parks and wildlife shooting the deer. At least it’ll be more precise with less chance of collateral damage
