Harriet Harman to lead Partygate inquiry into whether Boris Johnson lied to parliament

  1. Pathetic.

They are obviously going after Boris for political motivations.

Boris needs to press on, get us out of ECHR / get illegal migration down.

  2. > If the privileges committee finds him in contempt of parliament, it could recommend he is forced to apologise, suspended from the Commons, or even expelled. Any sanction would need to be approved in a vote by all MPs.

148 unconfident Tories could see him off, then, assuming the committee has even a basic ability to assess evidence.

  3. Didn’t he already rewrite the ministerial code so that if he was found guilty of lying to parliament he wouldn’t be expected to step down?

  4. The playbook should be very obvious now.

An inquiry, which is somehow compromised, and then makes recommendations that have no teeth, and it all just slides in to oblivion.

It is just smokescreen after smokescreen, and nothing really changes.

  5. so it’s all highly impartial then? May as well have an enquiry led by George Osbourne on whether or not Corbyn proposed sound economic policies. Or an enquiry by Arsene Wenger on whether or not Sir Alex Ferguson showed correct sporting etiquette – etc.
