President Michael D Higgins ‘crossed line’ in housing policy attack, say furious ministers

  1. Absolute Bollox that 4bn is being spent on housing, It’s two billion on housing investment and 2 billion wasted on rental subsidies at a time inflation is going through the roof which is just dumping fuel on the fire.

  2. The government is of course now attacking him rather than acknowledging he is absolutely right. If we cannot house people and give them a realistic living wage then we have failed as a society – painful to hear but it’s the truth.

  3. I think he’s dead right, the housing situation is a joke right now and has been bubbling up for a long time. We’ve been constantly giving out about rent prices for years and the government haven’t done anything about it. Michael D as the president is representing Ireland and the people of Ireland and personally I admire him for not taking the figure head stance snd speaking up on behalf of the public.

  4. Higgins is correct 100%. The ministers who are embarrassed by his comments want to take a good look at themselves. Crossed a line my hole. This from the expert line crossers. Fuck them, the cheek.

  5. Truth hurts. The President should be the one to call out when the people of his Republic are suffering from the failures of its government

  6. > “He just doesn’t care any more, and he’s more popular than the Government, so he just does what he likes,” the minister added.

Awfully telling on how they view the public

  7. The government are barely reactive instead of trying to be proactive and they dont like being told this by “one of their own”. Fair play to Michael D. I hope the politicians get up in heap about it. Then they might begin to realise how bad this situation is for so many people

  8. He absolutely didn’t cross any line – Miggle D is saying exactly what the public is thinking. More power to him

  9. What else is he there for if not to speak to the state of the nation. He’s well aware it’s his last term and good on him. I hope the whining bitches in the Dail get more of it. He may be diminutive but he’ll stand up to them; he’s been in politics, been a TD, he knows what dropping the ball looks like.

I mean how is this even a criticism, the gormless eejit who said it needs his head checked:

    >He just doesn’t care any more, and he’s more popular than the Government, so he just does what he likes,” the minister added.

  10. “Crossed the line” lol, looks like someone felt the heat

Maybe they should work instead of coming up with BS excuses

  11. Rather telling that not a single one of these “furious Ministers” was willing to be identified on the record criticising Michael D or his comments.

  12. I see none of these “furious ministers” will go on record with their furiousnessesses.

    Fucking cowards.

  13. The thing with Micky D is that it takes him a long time to work up a head of steam but when he does, he’s a firebrand.

He’d much rather be politic, polite and patient but when he feels that has been exhausted to no avail he’ll come at you.

He will know he has overstepped his presidential authority, so he must be seriously pissed off and no amount of ministerial whining will stop him now.

An angry Michael D Higgins is a sight to behold.

  14. Most politicians are sociopaths. I’m not surprised they are reacting like this.

    * Lack of empathy for others.
    * Impulsive behavior.
    * Attempting to control others with threats or aggression.
    * Using intelligence, charm, or charisma to manipulate others.
    * Not learning from mistakes or punishment.
    * Lying for personal gain.

  15. The President is highlighting the neglect of the government to provide one of the most basic human rights to the people of this country.

Considering these human rights are protected by the government then it’s hardly an opinion.

  16. I was living in Ireland between like 2017-2019. I loved it but didn’t want to stay because of the housing situation. Seems like it’s the same still. But now the ministers have gotten their feelings hurt. Fucking babies. Googoo gagaa-energy.

  17. > “He just doesn’t care any more, and he’s more popular than the Government, so he just does what he likes,” the minister added.

Jealous of his popularity. They can’t stand the concept of democracy and don’t want to go back to it.

  18. He most certainly did not cross the line. It’s about time someone called it out for what it is. My respect for the man has grown immeasurably.

  19. He didn’t cross the line. He’d cross the line if he said “vote for the other guys”, but he didn’t. He’s just expressed his absolutely dismay that this is getting worse and he’s reflecting the nation in that regard.

    Keep going President Higgins.

  20. The truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth. Particularly the inept overpaid politicians in this country.

  21. I remember when Michael D won his presidency election. I wasn’t too pleased it wasn’t a very nice election cycle with lots of mud slinging – however I was ignorant and didn’t do my diligence on his work as a minister and academic and his work to make the arts (film and tv production industries in Ireland ) what they are today. His work has afforded bigger productions tax breaks to film here – Star Wars, Disenchanted, vikings etc

However, [this speech](https://youtu.be/c2AnoCNarQQ) to the EU admonishing them in their treatment of Ireland Spain and Greece via harsh austerity measures and their abandonment of the youth and of Europe was when my universal respect and appreciation for him was born.

Once again his speech on the housing crisis, he has proven yet again, that he is a world class president. Who not only hears his peoples suffering. But understands it totally and is not afraid to cut through and publicly call out the bullshit of Micheal M , Leo the liar and Eamon the idiot.

And they and their parties don’t like being called out on their inability (unwillingness) to do anything substantive other than repackage the same policy over and over to address this manufactured crisis. With not one of them willing to put their name to their spineless and cowardly criticisms of his valid and reasoned statements on the crisis they have perpetuated in our country.

  22. > One minister said Mr Higgins’s interventions are “getting embarrassing”

Embarrassing that he’s highlighting it, or that the country is in the state that it’s in?!

  23. Furious ministers can fuck right off. We should be furious because they’re getting fat off the land and the Truth hurts. These cunts don’t give a fuck about anything post election. This is what we have as headline news today. Not ministers are a load of promise breaking wankers that will enjoy a huge pension when they fuck up yet again. Micheal D needs to keep this narrative going. Rant over.
