Only Northern Ireland has to be covered by the ECHR under the GFA
It may be possible to leave the ECHR while making some kind of weird legal exception for NI that keeps them in it.
Edit: Obviously the loyalists would be absolutely _pissed_ at yet another legal shift that further distances NI from the rest of the UK, but it would _theoretically_ be possible.
Excuse the post but just listening to some idiot politician, [tom pursglove](https://www.gov.uk/government/people/tom-pursglove), on bbc pm say a load of bullshit about the UKs ability to drop the ECHR.
while on the subject, two very different articles:
>[Alain Tolhurst: Home Office Was Blindsided By European Court of Human Rights Move To Ground Rwanda Flight](https://www.politicshome.com/news/article/home-office-echr-rwanda-migrant-flight-blocked)
>
>Tuesday’s flight was scheduled to take off from a military airport in Wiltshire at 10.30pm, at a cost of around £500,000 before being blocked at the last minute by the ECHR
Would that be the court instigated by a certain Winston Churchill?
At the end of the day leaving the ECHR will be very hard because of the Good Friday Agreement and doing so would have huge ramifications bigger then Brexit.
An inconvenient fact that is ignored in all the bluster and attempts at division, that no amount of legal jiggery pokery can fix.
Next up on the news: UK plans to leave the UK to avoide the GFA
This government is like a high speed ping pong ball in a sewer pipe, bouncing from filth to filth.
We already broke that.
I seem to remember some dumb ass video where Dominic Raab was trying to look tough, calling himself a Tory and how much he despised the human rights bills.
That headline is a nice way of saying,
“Ireland, we know you’re full of violent braindead idiots who, if not for a single piece of paper, would quickly devolve into a bloody chaotic ‘Mad Max’-style mess, where only those with a quick trigger-finger and strong knowledge of explosives will rule the land, in barbaric non-stop bouts of bloody thuggish war.”
In other words, it’s incredibly insulting to the good Irish people, as it brands them as just mindless childish thugs without any capable cognitive understanding of peace and democracy, who need the UK, the EU and (to a slightly lesser extent) the USA to both rule over them and tell them how to be a peaceful nation.
