It was just a debate. How are we not allowed have a debate anymore? You don’t win people over to your side by banning the other.
I’ve seen a few articles about this now but no actual examples of what was said? I’ve only skimmed through that article but nothing jumped out. Don’t really want to listen to the whole show but does anyone have any clips or even quotes from it?
I think this is a very serious overreach by the TDs concerned.
Meanwhile Joe Duffys listener ship has gone up 15%.
saying anything but the approved Californian opinion will get you called “anti-trans”
You either die a hero or live long enough to see joe Duffy called far right and transphobic
As a trans person myself I am so tired of being a debate point. I just want to live my life, and if I choose to use my uterus for a baby, to not be misgendered. Couldn’t care less what the door is labelled as long as it’s not banning me from respectful medical care if I decide to get pregnant.
Reminds me of an Americanism I hate. Here we call them “jails” or “prisons”. Over there they call them “correctional facilities”.
It’s just that we are afraid of calling a spade a spade these days.
Somebody’s looking for votes.
For Christ sake nothing bad was even said. It was a constructive argument on both sides and actually was good for my understanding as an early 30s male to see the different viewpoints expanded on rather than the toxic tidbit points seen in twitter threads from American discourse.
Funny enough, what the lecturer said near the end of the show is just exemplified by all the fall out. People are afraid of having these discussions or speaking out for fear of reproach or to be hounded by the cancel mob. Is this not a bully mentality? I’m sorry but if what you want is going to affect me in how I say things or certain words then you A). at least have to speak about it and educate others or B). Get the fuck on with it but don’t be offended if I mislabel you in the workplace or otherwise
Is Dublin pride trying to dictate what rte/liveline are allowed to broadcast on their platform?
i listened to the show nothing anti trans about it at all ,this group is shit stirring nothing more they should be ashamed of them selfs
The state of Joe in that picture 🤣🤣
Tds in outrage over something someone said, still doing fk all about the housing crisis.
I’m no fan of rte but fuck that. I’d be completely ignoring that attempt at silencing debate.
I don’t bother with the trans stuff. Each to their own and it’s such a toxic subject online but that’s a step in the wrong direction. Very strange
Clown car show now. How is an ‘independent’ broadcaster accountable to an Oireachtas committee.
Talk about a quick response.
This a consequence of people living in online echo chambers and not being able to cope with challenges to their viewpoints. If only these groups would realise they’re damaging everyday trans/non binary folk with their hysterical reactions and overreach. The show wasn’t controversial, I listened after the fact due to the uproar.
All power to the pride. Let people live and do what they want.
>Psychotherapist and author Stella O’Malley wrote on Twitter that “open dialogue is the lynchpin of civilised society.”
For those of us that wish open discussion to continue on RTE as is, what can we do?
For all those who said it isn’t an attempt at censorship… this is what I meant when I said Pride Dublin was “strongarming” RTE.
RTE have always been somewhat decent at keeping things unbiased now people are screaming at them to allow only one opinion.. Ridiculous
“Regina Doherty said she “fully” supported the decision by the LGBTQ+ group”
FULLY. Quelle suprise.
I’m surprised so many groups are campaigning against self-id when it has been in place for years and there hasn’t been much fuss. To the point where I would imagine it’s had next to no impact on most people’s lives and many people wouldn’t know it’s in place. To campaign for introducing medical checks just seems, I don’t know, really pointless considering we haven’t needed it so far.
Just like so much of the anti abortion stuff seemed to come from American, a lot of this seems to come from British groups.
Are people not able to have discussion’s anymore?
The only way people are going to hear an opposing view is open discussion, limiting what one can and cannot discuss is oppression.
The only real way of changing someone’s opinion, whether they’re racist or anti-trans or anti (insert whatever you want), is through open discussion and communication.
We’re getting very close to have thought police.
Ridiculous how much attention this is getting, absolute drama that to me is just attention seeking given the month that’s in it.
The whole is just a massive headache and a complete shitfest of a subject as far as I’m concerned and not worth paying attention to as theres far too many toxic headbangers involved who seem intent on trying to make changes and calling anyone who doesn’t agree phobic and shit. They don’t seem to realise or care that this kind of idiotic bullshit is gonna have people stop caring and not give them the time of day as they’ve become too toxic to debate with.
Maybe they TD’s should put the law relating to self ID for gender to a public referendum after the committee? I didnt even realise this was a thing until recently.
Women who want maternity bills to be about women or who are concerned about trans women being in female only spaces have every right to air their views. If this is all they said (I dont listen to LL) then this whole thing is nonsrnse.
This is the BAI’s role, TDS should stay out of media regulation. All parties do it. SF in courts and FF/FG in committees.
We have a media regulator for a reason. RTE is not and can’t become politicians toy.
