I added potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and red kidney beans as the vegetables.
Tried to keep it semi-authentic with my spices by using: caraway seeds, parsley, and paprika from Fűszerész in Budapest. I got hot paprika instead of sweet because we’re Indian and need the spice lol.
I put some liquid smoke as well to mimic the taste of a gulyás made on a bogrács.
Next time, I might get some plant-based beef alternative and see how it tastes.
Köszi!
I think you did a good job!
There are some gulyás-adjacent things that don’t have meat anyway, like lecsó, gombapaprikás or paprikás krumpli.
good on you!
hot paprika is a valid choice
liquid smoke is a good idea, I suggest don’t substitute the meat, leave it as it is, looks good
It’s not gulyas, rather bableves
>meat-free gulyás
I can hear veins popping in the brain of my uncle even though he’s hundreds of kilometres away.
Vile heretic, repent your sins against humankind, absolute monstrosity how can you do this to me, this is a larger tragedy then Muhi, Mohács, 48, Trianon, 56, ’07, combined.
You can also use soy-cubes / pea protein cubes (or even smoked tofu) to substitute meat (these options are also vegan).
Let me know if you need help.:)
Looks great !
Smoked paprika? I’ve heard of it but never seen such, or anyone using it. Probably I’m not authentic enough 🙂
Nice! It’s called “Hamis Gulyás” which means “Fake Gulyás”. My Grandma made me it a few times in the 90’s.
Interesting to see, that some people not just speak, but write with accents as well! /s
This sub is full of bad gulyás-wannabe foods posted by foreigners, this actually looks good! But actually it isn’t supposed to have mushrooms, and kidney beans is only included if it’s “babgulyás”
