We’re a family of four. We’re arriving in Athens on 19th July and leaving from there on 22nd July. We booked flight tickets without considering the expensive internal travel within Greece.

Initially, we planned to visit an island like Santorini but then realised it’s too far away and expensive to get there and stay.

We’re on a budget, but we would love to visit a nice beach place easily accessible from Athens for maybe 1 or 2 nights. I was looking at this link: [mainland Greek beaches](https://greecetravelideas.com/best-beaches-in-mainland-greece/)

And I’m still confused which place to choose and how to get there from Athens. I would be super grateful if someone could help me out in this regard.

  1. None of the beaches in the link are easily accessible from athens (most of them require a 5+ hour drive). The ones in pilion might be good, but you will need to rent a car to get there. Close by to athens is sounio, which is nice (not as fancy as pilion or chalkidiki) and is accessible by car and by bus. Another choice might be kaiafas beach, which is approximately a 3-4 hour drive (you can go there by bus probably). Loutra oreas elenis is a coastal village close to athens that you might like…

It all depends on what you consider budget, what you consider accessible, and how far are you willing to travel.

  2. I don’t know many places close to Athens but give Agkistri a Google. It’s a quiet, small island near Athens accessible by ferry from Piraeus port (cheap tickets) and has some nice beaches. You could go to Santorini with 55 euros by ferry but the trip is 8 hours long so you’ll have most of your holidays on the boat.
