Leaving Horizon would make a mockery of Britain’s desire to be a science superpower

  1. The absolute balls up on this. Horizon is the biggest pond with the biggest fish and UK were sharks, once with their bloody good science.

On the plus side, continental Europe uses English as a working language at least in the institutions so it should be relatively painless to move, apart from the queues at the airport.

  2. It’s a poor headline, suggesting we’re actively considering leaving rather than being at risk of being excluded over our NI Protocol shenanigans. But the same horrific outcome whatever the cause, obviously.

  3. Genuinely, I would not be surprised if this leads to a massive braindrain.

I got offered a job in Germany in January of this year and have been living there since April. The pay, workload and quality of life is substantially better than the UK.

As /u/karma-toes also highlighted, English is the lingua franca and most universities have an international office which seeks to help international staff adjust to the new country.

My contract runs until the end of the year, but I’m genuinely hoping I don’t have to come back to the shit show.

  4. We want to be a science superpower the same way I want a 6 pack: I would like one, but fuck me I’m not going to make even one decision to actually make it happen.
