(WPTA) – Gov. Mike Braun proclaimed June as “Nuclear Family Month” on Monday, the first day of Pride Month.
Braun described a nuclear family as “consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children,” saying it “is God’s design for the family structure.” He added that the nuclear family has been the “foundation of society since the creation of the world.
In social media posts, the governor said he has seen the impact “loving, committed families” have across generations as a father of four and grandfather of seven.
In the proclamation, he says research shows that children who live with their married, biological parents have better physical and emotional outcomes. He says when families weaken, communities “must compensate with expensive, inferior approaches,” pointing to welfare systems, and schools and police parenting children.
“Hoosier values celebrate the commitment mothers and fathers have made to each other and to their children,” the proclamation reads.
Braun said as the 250th anniversary of America approaches, the proclamation “recognizes the important role families play in shaping the future of our state and our country.”
“Indiana will continue supporting policies that strengthen families and help the next generation thrive,” he posted on social media.
