The Maghreb-Europe pipeline is no more by the way (due to geopolitical reasons)
The yellow one (Maghreb) is closed given the hostilities between Algeria and Morocco (as far as I know).
The blue one (Medgaz) was about to get closed given the recent change in position of the Spanish government on the Western Sahara dispute. They waited to the best moment to do it in 70 years (who is still expecting competent leaders here?).
This goes through Boku Haram territory, no? Enemies if Europe will start supporting them, if they aren’t already.
I think the french army was there fighting, but Nigeria might send them off, for populist reasons and anticolonial rhetoric.
So what I’m taking away from this is that Hassi R’Mel is a major strategic vulnerability for us.
