Rail strikes will drive passengers away, Grant Shapps says

  1. Network rail are saying they can’t offer more as the government won’t allow them to offer more.
So Mr shapps it seems like it’s not down to network rail.

Also ignores that you have been planning this throughout the pandemic while praising rail workers you and your cronies where planning on shafting us.

Also pay is a small part of the equation. Notice how he isn’t talking about the job losses ? The changes to working they want to implement ?
Bit quiet on that aren’t you.

    Prick.

  2. “Your union bosses have driven you to the verge of a national strike under false pretences. And rather than protect your jobs, they are actually threatening your jobs.”

Interesting comment coming from someone behind the planned shutdown of all ticket offices in the country, causing mass redundancies. How, Mr schapps, can a worker protect his job when your threatening to take it from them?

  3. Is Mr Shapps going to carry me from my house to Waterloo station on his back?

Otherwise, I will continue to rely upon the trains.

  4. Grant Schapps, under qualified to be an assistant manager at Skegness Lidl but somehow is a government minister.

  5. Deflect and deny…. are they ever going to be capable of doing something or just pitch a bitch, deny the public’s pain and go back to their parties in the dark?

  6. Shapps is well out of his depth. The unions have tried to have talks and have even released a letter requesting talks. Unfortunately as per usual our government want to ignore that and bulldoze ahead with whatever plan they have in their heads.

Just a few years ago the North was promised lots of upgrades to the railways. Yet one by one they have all come to nothing. Even HS2 is scrapped to Leeds.

Ironically today c2c, LNER and Northern have had ballot papers sent out for further strike action on top of the national strike. 2 of those company’s are government ran

  7. I’ve noticed that the media and the far right are claiming that the people going on strike are on 60k wages but I just want to point out that I work in the rail industry and many of thise going on strike are on band 6 roles that are critical safety…. Yet remain on £20,000 per year.

Only a small percentage of those in RMT are train drivers. Not that it matters. Everyone deserves a better wage.

  8. We love going somewhere we haven’t been before but we have a budget. The train tickets themselves normally exceed that so we don’t even consider rail travel anymore.

  9. Prices are already doing that. I’m going to visit someone soon about 3-4hrs away. A return trip at the absolute cheapest is £120. It would honestly be cheaper flying to a different country and meeting them there and having a weekend away for the same price overall.

I just did a 9hr train trip (Budapest to Prague) and that was maybe 10 Euros – passing through 3 countries. I could maybe go 30 mins for that price in the UK… It’s ridiculous.
