Shouldn’t they simply be parked exactly like bikes are parked?
I think besides banning them from parking in different zones, like in Brussels, maybe some more bike/scooter storage areas should be provided.
Why not? You also shouldn’t be allowed to leave your bike on the street then?

If electric scooters can’t be parked in the street then I assume cars, which take up 20 times more space than e-scooters, shouldn’t be allowed to park in the street either?
I am not against the e-scooters. They contribute to light mobility and it’s less cars on the road.
But people can, and people do leave them anywhere. I fell off my bike when one of them was on its side on the bike path. Not easy to spot in that configuration. Usually they are pretty visible in the middle of the way, or preventing people access to a shop or something else.
If people use them instead of their car. If we are serious about it. Then we need an urbanism solution that takes them into account.
Is why you find a lot of them in the bushes
I hate these kind of notes but the author is right. You see these dumped everywhere.
And what we don’t see is that some guy then has to drive around town every night to pick them up and bring them to a central location. Just ridiculous.
The tragedy of the commons…
I have nothing against e-steps themselves. However, the way people use these things really makes me want to yeet all of them into the nearest river.
They’re a danger on all walkways and cycle ways because they seemingly are left everywhere without much rhyme or reason, making it very dangerous for everybody else.
These things should be regulated more imho, if only to avoid this (or at least have repercussions for this).
I just came out of a pharmacy (Brussels) and somebody had parked his scooter right in front of the entrance. Like, I literally had to step over it to get out.
Good thing I’m not too weak in walking or need a stick or something. As would be a lot of the customers in the pharmacy, I reckon.
These scooters are a good idea, but when people are so reckless in how they park them, then it is not a good idea thought to the end.
Edit: is there actually some place where one can report such dangerously parked scooters? Like, have them moved by a service (at the owner’s expense, of course)? Hm, maybe FixMyStreet would be a solution here… 🙂
I move shit parked scooters all the time in my neighbourhood. Parking perpendicularly on the sidewalk, in front of a crosswalk ramp etc. Impinging on what little pedestrian space there is, in the way for strollers, wheelchairs, impeding foot traffic when it’s busy…
At least one a day, but I could move several every time I take the dogs out, it’s endless. Shared responsibility means *no* responsibility, the users don’t care (not their step), nor do the companies (they can simply point to the user). Meanwhile the sidewalks are polluted with hundreds of these things, it’s antisocial as hell. But hey, profit, right?
Found one of these in the middle of the night in the middle of a dark bikelane. Glad I have a very bright front light. Got of my bike and put the scooter aside of course.
I love the system they have in other countries: the further away you park them from designated areas, the more you pay. You will quickly see those cheapos who don’t care about others put them away neatly.
I simply throw them on the side with the bikes when I come across them.
When they are clearly parked by people that are inside the house I will push them on their driveway..
Got 1 rescue pup who is absolutely terrified of them -.-
It is not allowed
the note is not going to do anything, these are public use scooters and the people using them generally do not care about how they leave them
Aan Bocadero bij de parking zetten ze die er altijd voor. Zodat je kan uitstappen om binnen te rijden

I work in Brussels. The amount of times I encounter these scooters parked straight across a narrow sidewalk is ridiculous… There’s a bit where they put a billboard on the sidewalk, and it’s been more than once that a scooter was blocking the bit between the billboard and the wall. Only way past was either step over it/physically love it or walk around the billboard into the road.
Some people have a brain the size of a peanut if you park one like this and think it’s totally fine…
O-bike (Obesitas) would be a better name
These scooters mostly replace foot traffic, are a pain the ass for pedestrians and the general population. They are not safe, by design. And most of them have to be replaced (after 200-300 km) because unrepairable.
I would love to see more people on bicycles instead to tackle mobility issues.
They should honestly just ban these things. The “shared mobility platforms” are a scam that only work because of the free rent-free money-faucet that is being turned off as we speak. Just like Über there’s no viable economical future for scooters like this, they don’t make money, they don’t actually replace car-traffic, they’re dangerous for pedestrians and they’re dangerous for the people riding them. Not to mention given the cost of the battery and their average lifespan they’re polluting as fuck. You want one, you buy one and when you park it badly, it gets impounded. It’s not that difficult. Our society can’t handle this type of shared mobility in a responsible way, please stop dreaming it’ll work one day.
Dat ze die prutsen gewoon van straat halen, het moet allemaal veel groener en mileubewuster maar we gaan wel van wandelen en een normale fiets naar elektrische steps en fietsen. Steps zijn voor kinderen en laten we het daarbij houden.
If you wish to solve this scooters who are placed at improper locations they should be collected by some official entity. The owner of the scooters can come and pick them up after an administrative fee. Then it is up to the company to decide how to deal with that. Like forcing it’s users to send a picture of the scooter parked at an appropriate place when he arrived at their destination.
Found in berchem? Unlikely the person who left it like that can even read it 🤷♂️
next time please put 2 scooters
I have thrown several in bushes or amongst the side, preferably as hard as possible hoping that I break them. Several times to clear the road for people in wheelchairs, other times to prevent people on bicycles from crashing into them. Kicked one out of the way in front of the idiot who parked it blocking the sidewalk.
And yes, if cars weighed the same I would throw those around as well. Be an asocial asshole, be treated like one.
Antwerp fucked itself in the ass by allowing these pieces of shit to go anywhere and be parked anywhere. I’m glad Gent held off on them.
Just fine them 58€ for incorrect parking like you’d do with an incorrectly parked car. Problem will soon be solved.

Haha a friend of mine had one of those between his windshield when he parked his car ‘asocially’… There was no room whatsoever to put anything on wheels near it. Also in Berchem, odd
When i lived in ‘t stad, i rented a garage and someone thought it was necessary to park his electric step smack dab in front of the garage…happened multiple times.
I’m glad i’m out of ‘t stad
I just kick them over tbh
I don’t wanna be the nerd who points out that “elektrische” is spelled wrong but it’s just bugging me. I also think these things belong at home, since they are so portable, and not parked on the sidewalk or street.
