Boris Johnson Says UK Could Leave Convention On Human Rights To Force Through Rwanda Asylum Plan

  1. That’s because he’s a fucking lying power hungry prick who thinks he’s a dictator, the public needs to vote these corrupt cunts in to oblivion, shame the alternative currently has no direction, policies or personality.

  2. Note that doing so would lead to the immediate suspension of large parts of the TCA (security and law enforcement cooperation, data and privacy, …), which can be cancelled almost immediately if the UK withdraws from or fails to implement the ECHR. This would almost certainly happen as various EU member states have constitutional requirements regarding these areas that are bound up with the ECHR. In addition, it is mentioned in various parts of the treaty that it is predicated on the UK upholding existing human rights treaties. Withdrawing from one can easily prompt further suspensions of other parts or even lead to sanctions.

In other words: not only would the political, diplomatic and economic cost be catastrophic, it would *reduce* the UK’s border security because it would set legal limits on how far the UK’s neighbours can cooperate with it.

  3. He’s sounding as deranged and desperate as Trump was towards the end.

He’ll be asking for a bunch of bovver booted “proud boys” next to patrol the beaches and look for any dinghies.

  4. Eton college needs to take a good look at itself,it’s not just Johnson,it’s all the self entitled pricks they’re turning out of that school

  5. Even with a war on he’s been sinking in the polls and the opposition leader is somone who the majority of the grass roots of the opposition seem to dislike.

What exactly is the plan of the conservatives? Is this them going out in a blaze of glory because they know they won’t be in next time, so might as well pillage the country beforehand.

  6. Why is the public so accepting of all of this?

Before someone says (and rightly so), “why don’t you go on the streets”; the very question is, why don’t left-wing organizations/unions do it? Where are they? As someone from a country where those are very strong (for better or worse), I find this bizarre but also disheartening.

Why is this government getting away with everything?

  7. “so what The Convention secures:
the right to life (Article 2)
    freedom from torture (Article 3)
    freedom from slavery (Article 4)
the right to liberty (Article 5)
the right to a fair trial (Article 6)
the right not to be punished for something that wasn’t against the law at the time (Article 7)
the right to respect for family and private life (Article 8)
freedom of thought, conscience and religion (Article 9)
    freedom of expression (Article 10)
    freedom of assembly (Article 11)
the right to marry and start a family (Article 12)
the right not to be discriminated against in respect of these rights (Article 14)
the right to protection of property (Protocol 1, Article 1)
the right to education (Protocol 1, Article 2)
the right to participate in free elections (Protocol 1, Article 3)
the abolition of the death penalty (Protocol 13)”

So what would be our rights if we leave?

  8. The only other nations that have withdrawn from the ECHR are the [Greek Junta](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_junta), and Putin’s Russia.

So, not entirely unfitting company for the current government…

(Obviously excluding nations like Saarland and Czechoslovakia, which “withdrew” because they stopped existing. Before some smart arse brings it up)

  9. So was this the grand plan all along then? Sinking Human Rights under the facade of keeping the brown people out to get his right-wing voter base on side?

  10. They have been after this since at least the early 90s.
Cameron in 94 held up the human rights act stating his party was willing to leave EU in order to get rid of it. Kept that up until the year before starting the brexit vote he claimed he didnt want.
May wanted it gone because it helped terrorists.
BJ is the only one willing to do it despite what anyone says or thinks about it.

We have lost our right for peaceful protest.
Thay have passed extreme laws granting police very questionable powers with acts such as the spy cops bill.
Our PM is quoted to calling himself the fuhrer and to “let the boies pile high”.

If they manage to get rid of the human rights act, its over.

  11. The ECHR was incorporated into Northern Irish law under the Good Friday Agreement. So the entirety of the UK can’t leave the ECHR without breaking the GFA.

Does Johnson plan to withdraw from the GFA too? Or will there be a situation where the ECHR applies to one part of the UK but not other parts?

  12. The Tories haven’t been very big on Churchill’s European Convention on Human Rights, probably as part of their pissing all over British history and culture.

It has stupid, outdated, anti-conservative concepts in it like freedom of speech, a right to a fair trial, and other pathetic relics of the past.

This isn’t something new. Cameron wanting to replace it with an easily revocable list of privileges which the state can deny at any time wasn’t even the earliest, Thatcher was trying to get unionised workers excluded from human rights back in ’84.

  13. Can someone just end this cunt? He’s decided that because everyone hates him he might as well burn the whole country while he still can.

  14. Yes… Let Britain, a country with immense accumulated grievances against other people, leave the human rights convention… That totally doesn’t look bad and totally doesn’t ruin the image Britain has been trying to rebuild for the past 70 years.

  15. This would be the Convention on Human Rights that Winston Churchill campaigned for, back in the day …

  16. If you need to leave a human rights convention to force through your plan, is that not the sort of thing that should make anyone think “wait, something isn’t right here”?

  17. So if his main concern is to stop the ‘”dangerous and illegal” attempts to get to the UK across the English Channel’ surely the easiest way is to make it easier for people to gain asylum and quickly process applications so people aren’t left hanging.

Sounds more like priti wants to blow up the bridge her parents came across.

  18. Mark my words – if you have the means, get out now. Made far more difficult than it should be due to brexit…but something doesn’t smell right. Shits getting very very real.

  19. Which will be impossible to achieve as we have a ‘withdrawal’ treaty that commits the UK to staying within the ECJ remit…the only way to ‘leave’ the Convention on Human Rights is by breaking the EU withdrawal treaty. Or our International Treaty within the UN that the UK helped write after WW2 and we ratified in 1955 and again in 1967. It’s just another petty argument to distract from the real life cost of living crisis his govt created whilst ‘Getting Brexit Done’ . The UK is fast becoming a disgrace around the world…

  20. This is easily the worst government we’ve had since Thatcher, and that’s including some stiff competition in multiple fraudsters and a war criminal

  21. Holy shit.

This still the Brexit we voted for leavers? Its YOUR rights too y’know. Don’t think you are ever safe.

  22. I hate these cunts with such a burning fucking fury, that it has started to boil my piss to ***steam***.

When can we drag them all out by their collars? When does that happen? At what point do we say enough?

  23. I’m being very angry and reactionary here, but for fucks same I am tired of how plain fucking evil the government is, I fucking hate it

  24. People are constantly going on about what a shitshow it is in America, why are so few people aware of the shit that’s going on in our own country. He really is a Teflon leader and no one seems to notice; or worse, they do notice and they just don’t give a fuck.

  25. I hate Boris Johnson. I hate him. I wish he would fucking die. I have not felt this way about another human in.. I don’t even know how long. He is despicable. He is disgusting. He is human filth. Boris Johnson is the worst of us. He has no honour whatsoever. Disgusting.
