In other words: not only would the political, diplomatic and economic cost be catastrophic, it would *reduce* the UK’s border security because it would set legal limits on how far the UK’s neighbours can cooperate with it.

The ECHR was incorporated into Northern Irish law under the Good Friday Agreement. So the entirety of the UK can’t leave the ECHR without breaking the GFA.
Does Johnson plan to withdraw from the GFA too? Or will there be a situation where the ECHR applies to one part of the UK but not other parts?
