Hi everyone !

On **Wednesday at 20:00**, I’m **interviewing Latvian MEP Nils Usakovs**, from the **Socialists and Democrats group**, on my Twitch channel. I will be asking him about his EU political experience, his priorities, but also asking some of your questions and those of the audience.

Nils Usakovs has been a Latvian MEP since 2019. He’s a member of the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.

The aim of these interviews is for people to discover their MEPs, learn about what they do, their expertise and interact with them. It is intended as pedagogic way to learn about your representatives in Brussels and EU politics, so we won’t go deep into policy debates and **we won’t cover national politics** (unless it is very relevant to the EU).

While most of my current community belongs to the EU bubble, I want to reach people who might be interested in the EU without being in Brussels, so they get a chance to exchange with people and experts from there and maybe learn some new things along the way. In this precise case, since the MEP is Latvian I thought it would make sense to give Latvian people the opportunity to pitch in 🙂

So feel free to **suggest down here questions you would like Nils Usakovs to answer** !

Priority will be given to questions related to the MEP’s field of competence (committees), EU news/the state of Europe and Euro-latvian politics. But feel free to ask other questions, if they are interesting/relevant I may pick them as well 🙂

  1. His view on Russian invasion in Ukraine. Does he condemn Putin’s politics. Does he support that so called Doneck and Lugansk republics and Crimea are illegally occupied by Russia.

  3. Ask him this: Why are you representing LGBT+ interests only in Brussels and did nothing while being a mayor of Riga for 10 years?
    Why are you pretending to be a social democrat when you always appealed to conservative russian voters?

  5. In 2014, after Crimea invasion/occupation he still wanted for Latvia to have an active trade with russia. So what is his stance on EU trade with russia, i hope its total russian embargo.

    His political party – Saskaņa- had an friendship agreement with putins One russia even after Crimean occupation, is it true, that friendship agreement was only broken after EU request ? And long after Crimea occupation had EU not requested to brake agreement would Saskaņa have that agreement, still to this very day ?

    What is his opinion on same sex marriages, i heard his party Saskaņa is against, but when N.Usakovs joined EU Parliament he supports same sex marriages in EU. This question is more about political maneuvering – Locally do not support because main russian voter base does not support, but as MEP ,support same sex marriages, because want to fit in ?

    Stance on Nuclear power, wind, solar and how to remove from EU the need for fossil fuels ?

    N.Usakovs as mayor, with some success, created hydrogen powered public transport. But it seems electric might be better, any plans/ideas about creating EU standards for public transportation, trolleybuses for everyone and everywhere ?

    Acceptance of refugees, now that close to two million Ukrainians are displaced by russia, what EU should do with refugees ? Ukrainian, African Syrian or other ?

    When or how Ukraine should join EU ?

    Latvia and several other nations, has recognized russian actions in Ukraine as genocide, belorussian,russian leaders as dictators, what should be done with their country properties and active supporters? For an example should EU nationalize and auction off all belo/russian properties and invalidate all belo/russian visas ?

  9. 1) Why do you support social democratic policies for Latvia, but not for Russia?

    2) Why do you criticize so-called human rights in Latvia, but are entirely silent about human rights abuses by Russia?

    3) Why does a lot of what you do result in splitting Latvian and European society? Do you support polarization?

    4) How can you help to get Russians in Latvia to learn the national language?

  10. So, do you feel any shame when you lied to inhabitants of Riga city about your candidature for EP? You said you wouldn’t run for it but when police started criminal case about your illegal actions you ran away. How it feels to be two-faced liar?

  15. Why Rigas Satiksme, Rigas Nekustamie ipasumi Rigas tirgus and other council enterprises are so corrupt and steal money? Plz stop.

  16. Why did he run to Brussels after he was removed from his position of Mayor of Riga? When he explicitly said he has no plans to go to eu parliament. If he lied about that why should we trust any word he says now?

  20. OP – you want to interview one of the most corrupt politicians in Latvian politics that used socially conservative policies to appeal to people who are homophobes.
