    He has condemned Russia and the invasion but has rightly pointed out that this was always going to happen because the West ignored the war in the Donbas, supported a regime in Ukraine that came to power via an armed coup and backed NATO expansion to Russia’s borders. The Pope made similar comments yesterday, I suppose he is pro-Putin too? Sap.

    You can think the invasion is wrong while recognising Russia has legitimate grievances and Ukraines behaviour since 2014 has been appalling

    I wish he’d scrub up a bit, but Ukraine is not winning, and we are not doing anything beyond thoughts and prayers, and weapons. ‘We’ are fighting Russia down to the last Ukrainian.

    It might be whattaboutery to bring up Yemen, Iraq and Libya. But Mick was having the piss ripped out of him for over a decade on this sub for protesting US military using Shannon. This has been his mission for as long as we remember.

    He is not working in the Kremlin, he has no power there. He can only say how the EU should react. And unless the EU makes a military force to fight Russia, they’re just making Ukrainians suffer. They had an impoverished Euro-facing kleptocracy since 2014, and before that, a Russia facing one.

    Like it or not, Russia is a very powerful military. The only countries that are sanctioning them are in Europe, North America, and the pro-NATO Asians.

    To most of the world, this is just a local conflict like how we see Yemen or Ethiopia.

  30. A lot of comments here display a colonialist sentiment I see all to often on the subject of Ukraine, and that is a complete disregard for the will of the Ukrainians. Ukrainians are just seen as pawns. Expendable automatons that we use to ‘buffer’ Russia I.e. allow Russia to bully.

    I would call Wallace a traitor to humanity for supporting a fascist imperialist war by an autocratic empire against a country that is trying to shake off the colonialist chains that empire shackled it with.
