Wooden bridge built by Caesar’s legions to cross the Rhine. First was built in 55 BC in Neuwied 15 km downstream of Koblenz (south of Bonn)

  1. That’s cool!
Romans never conquered the northern part of the Netherlands though; that part of the Rhine was too hard?

  2. Afair Caesar had this bridge built, crossed it, slapped the Germans around, crossed it back to Gaul and burned the bridge behind him, showing he had the biggest schlong, mic drop, basta.

  3. This was the first (roman built) bridge across the Rhine and the first location for Julius Cesar to make a “Rheinübergang”.

It’s covered in De Bello Gallico

  4. So much wasted budget… or maybe his short stroll around the other side of the Rhine was to scare peoples there so that someone like Ariovistus would not emerge again?

  5. I had the book this image is from when I was young. I’m not sure where it is. I think my brother has it now.
