  1. I look forward to seeing if they finally address the unanswered questions or if they’re doubling down on the Brexit attitude that the vocal supporters push online.

  2. If Scottish independence is on its way I think people will vote yes this time. Nicola only has to just say look at Boris Johnson and how he has dealt with the country as whole.

If Scotland became independent and was doing better independent than England. It will prompt northern Ireland and potentially Wales to follow suit.

It will invetiably cause problems to people jobs if they are commutting between Scotland and England regularly. In addition it will effect business either causing more to move to Scotland or to England. Forcing people and family to relocate if they have to move with there job.

Plus if Scotland was doing better independent in terms of education (which to be fair is a lot better than England when it comes to how fees are paid) I could see young English couples wanting to start a family in Scotland because of the advantages it would bring to them economically.

We will have to see what the advantages of being independent and staying with the UK will mean for Scotland once each respective party starts making there points across political agendas and pledges.

Either way politicians shouldn’t be measured on there words rather there actions and if they actually represent the common working Scot.

  3. I don’t blame Scotland for wanting independence right now, given the shower of shit we have in the UK govt. Also, if it’s illegal, or against the rules, then it’s the UK govt who lead the way in such things.

  4. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If there is another vote on the matter, the Unionist side of the debate will have a bit of an uphill struggle, I feel. The current Tory party is loathed in many parts of the UK, and their imperious nature and tendency to insult and denigrate political opponents really plays into the perception that Westminster sees the constituent nations as vassals rather than respecting their autonomy.

If the vote goes ahead, the Unionist cause will have the absolutely worst people helming it at the worst possible time, people who can’t even pay lip service to Scottish concepts of civic nationalism when they have dabbled so cavalierly with isolationism and xenophobia.

I could well see the vote going the SNP’s way through the failings of their opponents more than anything else. Especially if there’s a protracted attempt to stop there being a vote at all.

  5. Go on, do it, then move the border down so that us in the north can finally be free of Westminster

  6. Genuine question, if Scotland leave what would be the UK’s new official name be?

It can’t be the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, would it be the United Kingdom of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Or would the United Kingdom be dropped entirely?

  7. All this talk of a hard border…there won;t be a need for one. It’s looking increasingly likely UK will rejoin Single market. If Scotland does get indy, and rejoins EU it too will be in Single Market. Its not a matter of if the UK rejoins the Single Market, it’s when. It’s already starting

  8. Always been curious why there isn’t higher support for Scottish independence in England when apparently we’re such a burden. Funny that

  9. It’s really clear here that many English posters simply do not get it. Scotland is beyond fed up of being ruled by people they didn’t vote for, they didn’t want brexit, they didn’t want austerity, they don’t want this shitshow of a government who doesn’t care about them. They want to break off from the shackles of the union regardless of if it hurts them financially. They believe a future with the EU is better than with England and who can blame them.

  10. Can anyone help me understand the justification for this, given the agreement made with Cameron was Scotland would get a referendum but the SNP would have to accept the outcome?

Is there a timeframe for when a previous referendum result has no relevance anymore?

Would it be fair to run another one in 5 years if the outcome was not what the SNP wanted? The polls certainly suggest it would still be a No to independence.

  11. Lemmie guess, the Scots will vote to stay and Sturgeon will try again in a few more years. Quite evident that the majority want to stay.

  12. For those against it, here’s the only viable alternative IMO.

Each country in the UK is given equal power in all decisions. It’s not population based, it’s not MP based. It’s “what does Scotland/England/Wales/NI want?”. One vote per nation.

So you can have as many MP’s as you like in your individual nation but you put forward one position and compare it to the other 3 nations.

Don’t want that? Don’t be surprised when one unequal partner wants out then.
