Steel tariffs threaten 300,000 jobs, say industry heads | Scottish Daily Express – newspaper

The government announced this year that from July steel import taxes will rocket to 50% on anything over tariff-free quotas, which will be slashed by at least 60%.

At the same time the EU is cutting tariff-free imports from the UK by 47%.

The move has sparked alarm bells in the UK’s advanced manufacturing sector which needs high-grade precision steel to supply everything from aerospace and construction to the defence sector and F1 motor racing.
