Hungary’s foreign policy has become visible and proactive in Europe once again, Foreign Minister Anita Orbán said during the Foreign Ministry’s second staff assembly on Monday, highlighting a series of diplomatic initiatives and international engagements undertaken since the new government took office.
In a post published on Facebook following the meeting, Orbán said that three and a half weeks ago the ministry set out a clear agenda: restoring the institution’s professional independence, rebuilding the reputation of Hungarian diplomacy, and creating a workplace culture based on expertise, cooperation, and mutual respect.
According to the minister, the government can now point not only to plans but also to concrete results achieved during its first weeks in office.
Orbán cited several recent diplomatic developments as evidence of a more active Hungarian foreign policy. She said discussions in Warsaw had given fresh momentum to Hungarian–Polish relations, while expert-level consultations had begun between Hungary and Ukraine on resolving issues concerning the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
She also noted that Hungary had reaffirmed its commitment to the NATO alliance during meetings in Helsingborg and had conducted substantive talks with a number of European partners.
Among the most significant achievements, Orbán highlighted the agreement reached on European Union funding. She said the deal would create new opportunities for Hungarian municipalities, businesses, universities, researchers, and young people. The relaunch of participation in the Erasmus programme, she added, would once again allow thousands of Hungarian students to benefit from educational opportunities across Europe.
The foreign minister stressed that these developments were not solely the result of political leadership. Behind every negotiation, official visit, briefing document, and diplomatic consultation stood the work of ministry staff, she said, thanking employees for their contributions.
During the assembly, the ministry’s new senior leadership team was formally introduced. The appointments include László György Velkey as parliamentary state secretary, Gabriella Kereszty as administrative state secretary, Klára Breuer as state secretary for bilateral relations, and Krisztián Mészáros as state secretary for multilateral affairs.
Orbán said the new leadership brings extensive professional experience, international expertise, and a strong commitment to public service. She added that the ministry intends to build on this professional community in the coming months.
As part of efforts to improve internal operations, the ministry will also introduce new communication channels designed to ensure that employees’ proposals, questions, and feedback can reach senior leadership directly.
The minister concluded by emphasizing that effective diplomacy depends on a well-prepared professional community, mutual trust, and open dialogue. The experience of recent weeks, she said, has demonstrated that the ministry possesses the expertise and commitment needed to support Hungary’s renewed role on the international stage.
