my workmate got promoted from system engineer to senior system engineer – apparently payrise zero (well so he said).
>The Office for National Statistics said annual growth in regular pay, excluding bonuses, fell by 2.2% in the three months to April after adjusting for its preferred measure of inflation – the biggest fall since November 2011.
So perhaps low wages and low wage increases weren’t the fault of workers from the EU but rather the employers? Who knew?
HGV Drivers got that brief spike for a few weeks though so I though leaving the EU had solved our low wage issues already? Don’t tell me Brexiters were lying yet again! 🤦♂️
I talk to my British dad on the phone most days and it sounds like you guys are absolutely fucked.
I mean, so are we (America) but Jesus, it sounds hard getting by over there.
This definitely rings true as vacancies in my field for drivers were having to paying an extra £3-£5 a hour to attract staff because of labour shortages. I’ve checked indeed this morning and that has been completely reversed everyone is offering minimum wage.
Not if you’re an MP…..
I received a 0.5% increase after 2 year freeze. I am educated and trained in a specialist role that requires a degree and additional qualifications, but it is only minimum wage (with the increase). A lot of people who entered the workforce at the same time I did are in the same boat.
But it’s soul destroying regardless of how much or little you earn when you realise that you’re losing out, especially after all the extra work and stress of the last 2 years. This affects everyone, but for those on the lower end of pay it is becoming untenable.
And of course, companies want to force us back into the office – can’t even give us a reprieve from fuel costs but happy to risk employees’ health because computer said WFH is over.
Tories: “Don’t ask for pay increases or you’ll ruin the economy!”
*CEOs of big firms give themselves multi million pound increases*
Fun fact: I was earning more money as a shop hand in my local newsagents at the age of 15 than I was last month as a 20 year old in KFC. Sure, the party per hour was better, but I used to do like 20 hours a week over the summer as a kid vs like 8 at my most recent job! If it weren’t for my student loan, I’d be homeless right now at my most recent pay rate.

“Just pay the non-existent labourers higher wages” say the Lexiters.
Enjoy the G20 busting stagflation you voted for, guys.
UK population is ageing. More native people are retiring than entering the labour force each year.
Currently 1. 1 million less people in the UK labour market than before pandemic.
Boris Johnson (2021): “Nevermind cancer outcomes, look at wage growth.”
Looks like he’s doing shit by both metrics.
Wow I’m so glad we have the conservatives in power they sure are great for the economy
Do not worry worse is coming.
Tories doing Tory things….
They really are trying to take us back in time huh
How can we have 1.3m open jobs and people NOT be getting pay rises?
Bet it didn’t fall for the wealthy though.
Feels like the end times
