Russia won’t invade Ukraine because it doesn’t need to, Putin already has Ukraine right where he wants it. No, it’s not the pliant client state that he’d like, but it is largely paralyzed between East and West, which is as good an outcome as Putin can realistically get. There is no serious prospect of Ukraine joining either NATO or the EU.
Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 enabled the Kremlin to keep an eye on who’s doing what in the Black Sea. And Ukraine’s dysfunctional post-revolution politics are hardly a source of inspiration for Russians wondering about their own future.
But why the fucking hell even thinking of invading the territory of another country? In 2021? Risking a disastrous worldwide war? I can’t understand what takes some people even to think of illegally getting lands belonging to another country, sending young people to die for their mad desire of territories. It’s 2021, holy shit, not 1941.
Oh yeah. For years I was telling people that the next conflict won’t be confined to Donbass and Russia won’t operate under self imposed restrictions as last time.

For fucks sake, we have epidemic, extremly polarized society, energy crisis, shortage of goods, rising prices of everything, rapid climate change and some power hungry assholes want to add fucking war into this mess?
