In Ruthie Rogers’s new book, Table 4 at the River Cafe, Sarah Jessica Parker shares that when she travels, she’ll go as far as to follow hotel staff to catch where they eat after work. I haven’t resorted to that (though I respect the hustle, SJP), but I agree that the surest way to find the best food in town is to ask a local. I was in Paris for only 48 hours before I got called back to the States for work, so I ended up missing out on dinner at Siena, which both Oprah and Kirby call “the place to eat in Paris.” Since Paris is my favorite city in the world and an easy overnight flight from New York, a good meal is reason enough to go back.

ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA
The last time Oprah and I were in Paris together for Fashion Week was in 2004, when Kirby was a senior in high school. Among other discoveries this visit, we found out what happens when you go to a fashion show that has a horse track alongside the catwalk. Ask anyone who attended Stella McCartney’s show and they’ll tell you: pure magic.

KISS AND TELL
My sister Lynn and I swam with stingrays in the Cayman Islands, and yes, they’re as slimy as they look. That didn’t stop us from kissing them, though, because legend has it that a single smooch will get you seven years of good luck. Grand Cayman was also a foodie’s paradise and my first time at a world-class food festival: top-notch artistry, flavor, and hospitality!

ALL MY SISTERS AND ME
It’s true what they say: You never forget how to ride a bike. My sisters and I took a long afternoon ride, just like we used to as kids. Our trip to Anguilla and Montego Bay felt extra special because it was the last before my favorite daughter-in-law, Elise, gave birth to a baby girl.

FABULOUS IN ANTIGUA
Every Thanksgiving, my family and I escape to the tropics. Instead of the “I’m grateful for” tradition, we play “I’m fabulous because” and go around the table sharing why we’re each fabulous. As for me: I’m fabulous because I set up an outdoor movie theater to surprise everyone with an early screening of Wicked: For Good. I got major brownie points!

WEDDING CRASHERS
This wasn’t very classy of us, but Adam and I crashed a wedding in Asheville. Luckily, the couple was happy to have us there. I wish I could say it was our first time being wedding crashers, but it wasn’t—and likely won’t be our last!
