BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – A citizen of the United Kingdom, who Border Patrol say entered the U.S. illegally, pleaded guilty in court today.
According to court records, Hameed Mohammed Nagi, 21, along with three others, crossed the Quebec border in Somerset County in April.
The group was caught after a passerby alerted authorities that four men were walking on the Golden Road. All four men were located and arrested.
Records show Nagi, who had previously said he did not cross the border intentionally during a hike with his friends, pleaded guilty in court.
Officials say he faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on a false statement charge.
He faces six months and a $5,000 fine for illegal entry.
Two other men involved in this case have pleaded guilty to entering illegally.
