Sempra Infrastructure has completed and placed into service the Port Arthur Pipeline Louisiana Connector, a major natural gas transportation project designed to support its growing LNG export operations along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
The 72-mile, 42-inch pipeline will transport up to 2 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas to Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 in Texas, a liquefied natural gas export facility currently under construction with a planned nameplate capacity of approximately 13 million metric tons per year.
The company said the project was completed ahead of schedule and below budget, with total capital expenditures coming in at less than $1 billion. In addition to the pipeline itself, the project includes a compressor station in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, and related infrastructure.
The new connector strengthens Sempra Infrastructure’s integrated Gulf Coast gas network by linking Port Arthur LNG with the company’s Gillis Hub Pipeline system in southwest Louisiana. It also connects to Sempra’s under-construction LA Storage project, which is expected to provide additional natural gas storage and transportation flexibility for Gulf Coast markets.
The startup marks another milestone for Port Arthur LNG, one of the largest LNG export projects currently under development in North America. The facility is expected to become a significant outlet for U.S. natural gas supplies as global demand for LNG continues to expand, particularly in Europe and Asia, where buyers are seeking long-term energy security and supply diversification.
Sempra Infrastructure Chief Executive Officer Justin Bird said the project demonstrates the company’s ability to execute large-scale energy infrastructure developments efficiently while advancing its strategy of becoming a leading North American energy infrastructure operator.
The Louisiana Connector forms part of a broader buildout of supporting infrastructure around Port Arthur LNG, highlighting the growing importance of pipeline, storage, and export capacity investments as the United States continues to strengthen its position as the world’s largest LNG exporter.
