Trump calls Maine’s Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner ‘thug’ and ‘pig’
The president also said he will back incumbent Sen. Susan Collins in the race
President Donald Trump said Republican Sen. Susan Collins has his full support as she seeks a sixth term in the U.S. Senate while also calling Democratic challenger Graham Platner a “thug” and “pig.”Platner, an oyster farmer, was declared the winner in Maine’s Democratic Senate primary Tuesday night.His campaign, however, has not come without controversies, including the discovery of controversial Reddit posts that had been deleted, a chest tattoo that was recognized as a Nazi symbol and has since been covered up with another design, reports alleging that he exchanged sexually explicit text messages with multiple women after he got married, and a New York Times report that featured accounts from several of his ex-girlfriends who called Platner’s behavior “unsettling” and described their relationship with him as toxic or volatile.”I watched that thug that’s up in Maine. Maybe a little different ideology than me, but a thug. He’s a fake thug. He’s a phony. I’ve made a lot of money picking out phonies. He’s a real phony. I don’t want to stick him with that one, although I think pigs would be very upset about it.”Platner has not directly responded to Trump’s comments, but after the president delivered those remarks in the Oval Office, Platner shared a new political ad on his social media pages about Epstein Island.”The only thing the DC establishment can agree on is a love of Jeffrey Epstein — and a hatred of me,” Platner wrote on social media. “Together, we will take back our government from the Epstein class.”
