Value fashion retailer Primark has opened its fifth store in Romania this week, as it continues to expand in the market with three further locations planned by the end of this year.

The new store opened at ElectroPutere Mall in Craiova, following an investment of more than €10 million. The opening marks Primark’s debut in south-western Romania.

The news comes as the company this week celebrates three years since the opening of its first Romanian store in ParkLake Shopping Centre, Bucharest.

The retailer has revealed it is also looking to open new stores in Sibiu Shopping Centre and Arena Mall Bacău in 2026, joining previously announced location Palas Mall, Iași – all in all creating 450 new jobs.

With the Craiova store now open and three more locations planned by the end of the year, Primark is set to double its presence in Romania to eight stores.

Customers will be able to discover the latest fashion trends as well as everyday essentials across clothing, beauty, lifestyle and home categories.

The stores will also stock the growing Primark Cares range, with the retailer committed to offering more sustainable clothing at affordable prices for everyone. Currently, over 70% of Primark’s clothing is made using recycled or more sustainably sourced materials, and the retailer has committed to reaching 100% by 2030.

Maciej Podwojski, Head of CEE, Primark said: “Since opening our first store just three years ago, we have grown a strong business with a loyal and ever-expanding customer base. As a retailer with a strong focus on physical stores, we know that much of this success is thanks to our exceptional retail teams.

“Their passion and commitment has played a key role in introducing Primark to Romania and in creating the shopping experience our customers return to time and time again. We are excited to keep growing, investing in more stores, creating even more jobs, and welcoming even more shoppers in Romania next year.”

This is only the latest in a string of investments Primark has made into European countries.

In May Primark had announced that it would invest over €85 million (£73.4m) across Spain and Portugal as it undertakes a programme of new store openings and upgrades – creating over 300 new retail jobs.

The investment marks continued growth in a market where the brand has been building its presence for the past 17 years.

Primark’s parent company Associated British Foods (ABF) announced in April that it was planning to spin off the retail business, follower weaker trading that month as pressure from Middle East conflict weighed on consumer sentiment.
