“Don’t threaten Serbs by force, you can get an answer you won’t like.” Ursula von der Leyen received an answer from Serbia regarding the statement that Serbia must decide whose side it wants to be on

  1. Google Translate:
    >The Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin, said that Serbia, led by the last free statesman of Europe, Aleksandar Vučić, is on his side.

    >”Throughout its history, Serbia has been the subject of numerous blackmails and ultimatums.

    >In the last two world wars, Germany stood out with ultimatums after which millions of Serbs died. And the question has always been whose side we are on. “Serbia is on its side, Serbia is on the better side of history, which the people of Mrs. von der Leyen and most of the peoples that make up the European Union cannot boast of,” Vulin said in a statement.

    >”Serbia led by the last free statesman of Europe, Aleksandar Vučić, is on his side. Serbia consistently respects international law and that is why we do not understand that the territorial integrity of Ukraine is sacred, and the integrity of Serbia is not. Every ultimatum begins with one condition and continues with another. Let’s just impose sanctions on Russia, let’s just recognize the so-called Kosovo, let’s just leave the Republika Srpska. to be a part of it. And when we fulfill all that, here it is in 2033, and maybe we will be closer to membership in the European Union “, said Vulin and added:

    >If Aleksandar Vučić had accepted to impose sanctions on Russia and recognize the so-called Kosovo, they would have forgotten the nonsense they repeat in the media about dictatorship, lack of rule of law and similar lies. Until the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the European Union spoke of Kiev “One of the most corrupt countries in Europe, and now declaring them a candidate country. Let the Serbs decide for themselves and do not threaten them by force, you can get an answer you will not like,” said Minister Aleksandar Vulin, commenting on von der Leyen’s allegations decide whose side he wants to be on.

  2. They will have to make a choice at some point. Unless they want to stay on the sidelines for ever.

  3. Is it the EU that wants to join Serbia? Or is it, after all, the other way around?

Well, then don’t effing dare to talk like that to the people you want to join.

  4. Aleksandar Vulin is a fascist who shares with the public what Vucic and his crew aren’t able to due to their positions. The thing is, Vucic can do nothing but threaten, yell and cry since Serbia and its economy largely depend on the EU and its funds. The country would collapse in a matter of months if EU simply decided to cancel the membership talks and let it get isolated once again.

  5. If the title is accurate where is the threat? Or the force? It’s a very relevant question for a country that supposedly wants to join the EU. We don’t need (more) Kremlin agents.

  6. If they don’t want to join the EU, then the EU should stop all talks, funds, preferences, benefits etc. Treat them exactly like any other non-candidate country on their borders

  7. The Serbs did as they were told after being bombed by Uncle Sam. That said, to suggest Ursula was making threats seems to be an exaggeration.

  8. Why are these guys so dramatic. They’re like the dude on parcs and rec constantly screaming his answers.

  9. Doesn’t sound like she threatened them with force at all?

That moment when Serbia acts like Amber Heard.

  10. I didnt even need to open the article to know this was said by Aleksandar Vulin 😀
He is a Serbian minister well known for his far-right rethoric (although nominally belinging to a leftist party).

  11. Serbia can’t pick a side atleast until 2023, please look at a map of gas pipelines in serbia and see why. In 2023 the azerbaijan pipeline should be finished and then it can source gas from countries other than russia.

  12. Oh no, a tankie government we’ll have to keep denying entry to the EU. what a tragedy.

ffss, Europe should prepare a emergency tissue fund due to the salty tears of their government ( not their people, many/most of whom seem decent ) being told nope again and again. I’d even start cutting down the aid since there’s no progress in the lawmaking side since 2018-ish.

  13. At this point, I am convinced that Vulin is a literal Russian man in Serbian government. His rhetoric is in align to everything Russians want: paint Germany as enemy – they are the worst – World Wars and Germans – destroy Berlin… Meanwhile, for Serbia, Germany is the main trade partner. I think that the whole Serbia is a hostage of these pseudo-politicians who clearly do not work for the wellbeing of Serbian citizens.

  14. Welp, I wonder if there’s still someone who will defend them and have guts to say “Serbia isn’t on Russia side”
