A bit like soccer has been doing in the UK – maybe with mixed results, but outwardly the image of footballers being pissed in bars most of the time seems to have altered at least somewhat.
He added: “There has always been a heavy drinking culture within rugby. I invested heavily into that as well during my playing days, and I enjoyed it.
I hate people who partake in things they enjoy. We should stamp it out.
Such a bad drinking culture in rugby. I mean imagine how horrific it is sitting side by side with the opposition getting drunk and having a laugh.
Just off to get some popcorn.
I do love watching these discussions about how it’s fine to get pissed up and sexually assault each other and passers-by when you’re middle-class – especially when served up with class snobbery about football.
A lot of local clubs, including my own, rely quite heavily on sales from the bar to stay functioning. Without it, a *lot* of clubs would simply cease to exist.
It is tough as I kind of know what he is trying to say, but it just isn’t realistic or a major issue. Cut out drinking on the offchance a Muslim family is wary of getting their kid into the sport? Really it is more the dickhead “lad” side of it, that was the reputation that made me swerve it as a teenager. I was fairly good in school but the University society was notorious, I couldn’t be arsed with all that. A few beers after a game is good but i didn’t fancy being hazed or being regularly teabagged thanks.
