Let’s not forget this moment for Fine Gael’s leader

  1. People seem to think once we have a United Ireland the Orange Order will go away.

They are part of Irish Society if we like it or not. The 12th of July will become an Irish Bank Holiday and they will have as much right to march through our capital city as any other group.

  2. I’m not interested in tolerating a supremacist organisation that displays sectarian, inflammatory images and music but… they’re all old lads now. They’ll be gone in a generation or two in a re-united Ireland once poverty and social alienation are dealt with by a more compassionate state than they currently have from London.

Varadkar has never shown much of an understanding, or even interest, in history so I can’t be irritated by his comments. It’s just another vapid soundbite.

  3. I’d let the Third Reich have a march if it meant another Bank Holiday tbh.

Drive on there lads bang away on your drums and go for your little walk, I’ll be off in a pub somewhere.

  4. As nice as it would be to ignore the OO or to pretend they don’t represent a significant number of Unionists the reality is we can’t and they do. I want to see a United Ireland and if allowing them a parade in their capital city got us closer to that then fine, unfortunately the violent protests against the love Ulster parade a decade or so ago just gave them a chance to present the narrative that a UI would never be a place they could honor their own ‘culture’. So while I support a UI and wouldn’t vote FG I do agree with what Leo said

  5. But this already happened in 2006 under Bertie, under the banner of Love Ulster.

Went off quietly and without a hitch if I recall correctly.

  6. Yeah! How dare he reach out a conciliatory hand to the other tradition on this island. We want to stay in our silo and hold on to our grudges! No moving on! Never!

  7. Leo will say whatever it takes to be the most popular or talked about person in any room he’s in.

  8. Let them. Only rule is they have to get back to the North without any Garda protection. I’d enjoy seeing these saches in every beat down video online for about a week.

  9. A third of the tricolour is coloured to represent the likes of yer man on the left.

Although some seem to believe that in a United Ireland they will disappear for some reason and cause no trouble. In which case, shouldn’t we change the flag to all green?

  10. Let them.
People can practice their molotov cocktail throwing skills along with rocks, bricks and vegetables throwing aswell. Smash an OO gammon in the face? You win a prize. A great day out for all the family.

  11. If anyone ever want to know what populism is Mr Varadkar has himself tarnished in it.

Scurrilous political agenda grifting to power.

  12. I wouldn’t like them to come south, but them i don’t really want an United Ireland. I guess if you do want a united Ireland you’ll need to accept that they are part of Irish culture and tradition.
