“The rotation cycle is ongoing. Some of the Americans are still in Lithuania, some of the equipment is in Lithuania and is not going anywhere,” Kaunas told reporters Thursday.
According to him, Lithuania is waiting for answers from military commanders on the capabilities of the next US rotation.
Earlier, the minister refused to predict whether the decision on US forces would be known in June. He says Lithuania could host more than 1,500 US troops.
As reported, following the completion of their rotation last week, around 1,000 American soldiers with their equipment started leaving Lithuania. It is not yet known who or when will replace them.
The minister of national defence says he was assured by the allies that a new rotation would be sent.
US heavy battalions have been deployed to Lithuania on rotational basis since 2019.
Based on the US military data, as of April, more than 86,000 American troops were deployed in Europe, 39,000 of whom were in Germany.
