A father stumbled upon fish fillet strips from Iceland while browsing the retailer’s ‘new and trending’ section online, subsequently declaring them a “game changer for fish and chips lovers”. He went on to draw comparisons between the product and a recent dining experience at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant.
The content creator, known as Just Deano, has built a loyal following thanks to his straightforward and unpretentious approach to food reviews, and he described his latest discovery as a real find — despite noting it was slightly on the pricey side. He was putting the supermarket’s ‘100% Fish Fillet Strips Chip Shop Curry’ product through its paces.
Deano, who hails from Huddersfield and commands nearly 50,000 subscribers across his platforms, revealed that while he had previously sampled Iceland’s chicken bag range, this curry-flavoured batter marked the first occasion a fish variant had caught his eye.
After popping the fillets in the air fryer for 10 minutes, Deano observed that the batter had turned beautifully crispy, before remarking on the “beautiful white fish” contained within.
He then said: “Now, will it taste of curry? Definitely smells like it.

“They are absolutely fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Obviously, the fish is not the highest quality, but it is nice. It’s flaky, soft, and the batter does exactly what it says on the bag.
“It is a nice curry sauce batter, crispy, that’s really good. They are like the best fish fingers I’ve ever had. Obviously a bit more expensive than fish fingers, little fish fillet strips, really nice. I have to say I am very impressed with that.”
Regarding the price, he said: “Four quid? Maybe slightly overpriced but fish is not cheap anymore, is it?”
However, Iceland has since cut the price by half on its website, with the product currently available for just £2. The bags are also occasionally available as part of a three for £10 deal.
Deano awarded it a score of 8.9 out of 10, describing it as a tasty snack capable of serving as a “posh fish finger sandwich”.

He expressed appreciation for the fact that it wasn’t simply one large fish fillet, before drawing quite the comparison to round off the video, which you can watch in full here.
The YouTuber said: “I’ve recently gone to Gordon Ramsay’s fish and chip ship in Las Vegas. But I will spoil it for you a little bit… these are better.”
Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips operates seven days a week on Las Vegas Boulevard. The restaurant has accumulated 1,838 reviews on Tripadvisor, achieving an average rating of four out of five.
