TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller criticized the USDA’s response to the New World screwworm on this week’s edition of East Texas Politics on East Texas Now with Blake Holland.
Miller also responded to USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins calling him “unserious.”
When Holland asked Miller whether he was being included in discussions about the government’s response to the New World screwworm, Miller claimed he is never invited.
“They know I would confront them with the truth, and they don’t want to be embarrassed,” he said.
When asked whether Miller had tried to contact President Trump about his concerns with the federal response, Miller said he sent an email and text message to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
Holland also asked Commissioner Miller about his recent appearance at a data center forum with Democratic nominee for Texas agriculture commissioner Clayton Tucker.
Smith County Pct. 3 Commissioner J. Scott Herod, a cattle rancher and owner of Cut Beef in Tyler, also appeared on the program. Herod discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the modern-day fight against the screwworm compared to that of the 1950s and 60s.
State Rep. Cody Harris, R-Palestine, who chairs the Texas House Committee on Natural Resources, also joined the program to talk about data center water usage and an upcoming committee hearing.
