‘Devastated’ – Dublin woman ordered to remove ballerina mural from home

  1. Any reason as to why she has to remove it? Not something I’d do to my own house but if she’s the homeowner and it’s not offensive I really don’t see what the issue is.

  2. Awful in fairness. As are most of the council instigated murals cropping up everywhere.

God knows who came up with that notion.

  3. This country’s honestly a joke, any creativity is slowly choked out of society. Ireland loses creativity, arts and music day by day, it’s all about keeping them house prices high, people are shallow, self righteous and ego centric in this country since a bit of money has fallen on their laps and its honestly saddening so see how much money sways irish society, if a property owner wants to make a slight change to their own premises, they should be allowed to. Resident associations are the cause of this through and through. End of rant.

  4. I grew up in a rough area and nobody ever forced my neighbours to clean the 17 couches, a fridge, 3 dead dogs and the box of broken phones from their garden but this lady can’t have artwork on her house? I don’t personally like it but as she says, she pays her mortgage and taxes and maintains her house, why the fuck can’t she paint it whatever way she wants???

  5. Is it a listed building or does it affect the setting of a listed building nearby? Unauthorised works to a listed building is a direct offence

  6. Its a publicity stunt to promote the visual “orish ortist” you silly sausages! Nobody expected it to remain and the owners “devastation” is an act. Jesus fucking christ!

  7. Aw that’s deadly that’s like Banksy. Love street art. Love Irish street art in particular that wan who does the pics of Dermot Kennedy etc. with the speech bubble. Love Dermot Kennedy too.

  8. Looks far better than the dull, lifeless grey colored buildings that are very popular (for some reason) in Dublin these days

  9. The wealthy person who discribes herself as a libertarian (ffs) who commissioned this said she had the “idea” during lockdown, even though the corporate collective that painted this had this ballerina in boxing gloves ( uuh my guud the juxtaposition, genius!) series displayed elsewere …oh and sells prints…

  10. So is the new trend tattooing building once you’ve run out of skin? I don’t want to hear the alternative as it just reminds me of silence of the lambs.

  11. I live in Cork. The city centre and much of the outskirts are destroyed by derelict houses, and many of the buildings that aren’t derelict haven’t been painted in decades. Some are even falling to bits and people have been injured from falling pieces. It looks horrible honestly and personally I think it brings the mood of the city down. Why can you let something rot but you can’t be creative with the exterior of your house?

I know someone might come along and tell me this is because it’s a period house and protected or something like that, but there are plenty of period buildings being left to rot. Why is that alright? It just really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. So misguided.

  12. What bullshit. I don’t mind it at all.

If Banksy painted it though, they’d change their tune, pricks.

  13. Walked passed this recently, I’m not from the area but was walking around there randomly on a nice day and this stood out (in a good way) to me and those I was with, definitely a nice touch to the area, stupid making her remove it

  14. I’m laughing at the people supporting this shit. Guarantee that if it was in a housing estate they would feel different. Probably the same people that want this sort of house knocked down and apartments built instead

  15. How do we just get rid of the Dublin City Council? Like everyone who lives in Dublin disagrees with every decision they make
