Creating opponents is a very old method of trying to create unity in your group. I highly recommend Elias Canetti’s ‘Crowds and Power’. He witnessed firsthand the rise of the Nazis and has some wonderful insights into nationalism.

Because cunts like Marr at the BBC empowered them for a good decade by not calling out their lies and bullshit during interviews.

To feel they are more superior to any other nation because of empire shit?
It’s:
* a convenient dead cat from “useless Boris doesn’t have the support of his MPs” stories.
* Serves as a dog whistle to his racist Brexit voting base.
* N. Ireland’s economy is doing better in the single market than the UK is doing out of it, so must be removed to avoid visible embarrassment that Brexit is a failure.
* If trouble does restart in Ireland, Boris has his ass covered off the front pages of newspapers for several years.
* Lots of Boomers hate the Irish over the last batch of troubles so don’t care about Irish problems, meaning this won’t anger his voting base either.
The Tories will be mining Brexit for 50 years to ensure they win elections. They will wheel it out every 5 years and the swivel eyed loons will swoon.
Perpetual brexit. Only way to keep The Criminal in power is to continuously focus on the “enemy” and the struggles of brexit/freedom/whatever.
They’re not trying, they’ve succeeded.

Plenty of voters are OK with this, that is why it is happening. The media helped by fanning the flames for almost twenty years now, it helped convince enough people that the EU are against us and keeping us down and that immigrants are ruining the country. It is going to take one hell of a media campaign to reverse all that.
