Does anyone know what it says under these seats at the amphitheater at the Parthenon in Athena?

  1. The name of the priest who was meant to occupy it. For instance the first one (from left) says “ΙΕΡΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΟΣ ΚΑΙ ΦΕΡΕΦΑΤΤΗΣ” = PRIEST OF DEMETER AND PHERREPHATTE (Persephone)

  2. Thank you. That makes a lot of sense. Priests held a lot of power back then. Now in the USA some sports venues will have the name of a wealthy donor/business person on a seat.

  3. Friend, you asked the same question in r/Greek.

Edit: for everyone else, this same post was made in r/Greek — a Greek language subreddit — the day before and was answered in detail by multiple posts. I am not sure what the purpose of this post was, maybe a few more upvotes for an interesting photograph.
