Beer garden off O’Connell Street used by three pubs faces closure due to hotel development

  1. DCC and the planning board catering to tourists over residents once again. Every teen deserves the chance to wear the face off a goth in Fibbers; it’s a right I’d march for.

  2. Why can’t we have nice things…

That place had a great set up over the past few years for watching any match that was on.

Tivoli was lost as well to hotels, if we had a metro of decent public transport we wouldn’t need so many hotels crammed between the canals.

  3. So the bars are using the courtyard eventhough they don’t own the space? If so, did they expect to use it in perpetuity? It will be a loss alright though

  4. I don’t know the situation with who actually owns the space these pubs are using. Are they currently renting it off the hotel or something? But more importantly, it’s a great cultural area in the city and should be kept the way it is. Dublin is becoming an absolute dump full of hotels for tourists. All the good places are disappearing and everything that’s left will be overpriced for tourists. No wonder young people are leaving the country in huge amounts. Barcelona recently brought in a law where certain bars are protected as they’re part of the cities culture. Why can’t Dublin do something like that for spaces like this and for bars etc. Please, before it’s too late!!!

  5. “Dublin City Council has sanctioned the development of a six-storey extension to the hotel which is designed to provide an additional 95 guest rooms”

So 300 direct provision guests. That’s what it will end up as.

  6. Are they’re still out for revenge for that one wheelie bin?

Was using the riot police to coerce the public with the threat of violence not enough?

DCC are as fit for purpose as Fine Gael.

  7. Did fibbers ever operate on the offer the Liffey, seen a bar that doesn’t look like it opens anymore called fibbers on the Northside.

  8. One of the few reasons to go into Dublin going too now.

Dublin just going to tourists(i.e. rich idiots) , scumbags(i.e. poor idiots) and no character

  9. I used to love hopping between the three pubs through the beer garden, three very different demographics of people, it was like an anthropological exercise

  10. You can put in an objection. The objections were successful for the Cobblestone so its worth a shot.

Myself and my friends are going to put one in. I think its 20 quid.

  11. First the MUP, now all pubs will become hotels. We’ll all be happy in our hotel rooms once they get around to replacing housing with em.

  12. Ah fuck fucking hotels we have enough of the ugly looking bastards..sucking every bit of character and craic out of the place.there will be no point in going to Dublin soon because they ruined the place.

  13. It’ll be easier to find a place to go drinking in the Middle East than the middle of Dublin at this rate.

  14. Ah sure build more hotel rooms. Fill up the back ones with refugees for guaranteed income,(our money), what do yez want, open space and culture? There’s no call for that kind of thing in modern Ireland, at least according to An Bórd and Leo. They’ll end up with a shitload of hotels and no-one coming, as they’re robbers. It’s cheaper to go to America for a week than stay in Dublin.

  15. The worst thing is they applied for 7 stories and it was rejected. Build taller fucking buildings and we wouldnt be having these issues

  16. Dublin city is just gonna be a huge version of Berlin’s Alexanderplatz tbh. Fucking dead and hated by everyone, tourists too once the illusion wears off after 5 mins
