On June 20, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted, in general, the draft law № 4135 “On the Principles of the State Anti-Corruption Policy for 2020-2024”. 310 people’s deputies voted in favor.

The purpose of the document is to achieve significant progress in preventing and combating corruption, as well as ensuring coherence and systemic anti-corruption activities of all public authorities and local governments, primarily through the approval and successful implementation of the Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2020-2025.

Successful implementation of the strategy will eliminate/minimize corruption risks; reduce the number of corruption and corruption-related offenses; reduce the corrupt experience of citizens and businesses; increase the number of public servants, citizens, and businesses who are ready and actually report cases of corruption known to them; reduce the tolerance of public servants, citizens, and businesses to corruption.

This will have a significant impact on strengthening the protection of the rights and interests of citizens, businesses, and the state; accelerating economic growth; strengthening institutional capacity, and, as a consequence, increasing the efficiency of public authorities, and local governments. According to the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk, according to preliminary estimates, the strategy will help save up to UAH 200 billion a year.
