Drivers in Dallas-Fort Worth could face traffic gridlock and slow downs Wednesday as fans head to Dallas Stadium for the FIFA World Cup match between Croatia and England.
The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. at AT&T Stadium, renamed Dallas Stadium for the tournament. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, plan their routes and buy parking passes in advance.
Traffic backups could form on major routes into Arlington, including Interstate 30, Interstate 20, State Highway 360, State Highway 183, State Highway 114 and the President George Bush Turnpike.
North Texas saw major slowdowns Sunday during the first World Cup match in Arlington, when the Netherlands played Japan. A crash on westbound I-30 at State Highway 161 in Grand Prairie shut down all lanes for a time before the scene was cleared by 4 p.m.
With nine World Cup matches, a fan festival and the International Broadcast Center in Dallas-Fort Worth, transportation officials estimate more than 1 million additional visitors could come through the region during the tournament.
Drivers should check conditions before leaving and allow extra travel time to get to matches or to navigate traffic near Arlington.
