It’s getting annoying. Around me so many ATM’s are disappearing that when I want to go have a drink, I need to take a long detour to pass one by, where there used to be several on the direct route to the center. I don’t mind cashless being promoted, but for a lot of things, especially small expenses like having a drink, cash still makes more sense.
I live in Ireland and never use cash. Each time I go to Belgium to visit family, I need to withdraw cash as so many places do not accept Credit Cards (no Maestro/Bancontact in Ireland) or that just accept cash.
I then come back with a pocket full of coins. Very annoying.
At my office there is a bread vending machine that only takes small change. Like, where am I even supposed to get coins anymore?
Because CBDC is coming up.
I ain’t paying for a hooker with my bank card.
Had to scramble for lost coins in my car the other day because the frietkot i stopped at didn’t take the card
I prefer to withdraw cash from my nearest ATM and I do it often. Because I know that banks are measuring for each ATM:
* How many cash withdrawals are done?
* How much cash is withdrawn?
* How much is the ATM used by our own clients?
The ATMs that are less used, are the first ones that they close. Use it, or lose it.
The Central Banks are preparing the replacement of cash by CBDCs, Central Bank Digital Currencies, as they don’t like the anonymity of cash and the lack of control they have over it. These will be surveillance currencies that will come with the possibility to enable features such as expiry dates, devaluation, remote confiscation, payer and payees bans, coloring (only usable for e.g. healthy/eco things), identification of payers and payees, full ownership log of each digital coin, …
The only way of stopping or delaying these nefarious plans is by using cash…
Then one squirrel chews through the wrong cable and half a million people’s lives grind to a halt.
the way inflation is going money is going to be useless soon anyway S/
I’m all for it. Haven’t had cash on me in months except for some change in my car.
Only people opposing this are conspiracy nutters and doom prophets.
Yeah, and tons of bars and frituurs in Brussels do not take cards.
the problem is that small businesses are getting squeezed to enter the cashless society. I inquired at some shops and it’s amazing what they have to pay EACH TRANSACTION. They’re losing like 3 to 5 % on each payment, being conservative. Now i don’t know whether it’s because they’re in a risk category for money laundering or it’s across the board.

I always try to pay with cash since I got aware about the dangers of a cashless society, after being banned by my bank due to identification theft. I described my horror story and concerns in: https://www.reddit.com/r/belgium/comments/j9u7mc/cash_use_it_or_lose_it/
