“Machteloosheid van politiek”: waarom stappen linkse regeringspartijen mee in manifestatie tegen eigen beleid?

  3. A majority coalition with 7 parties is bound to have issues. The wage standard law might be (together with the beautiful nuclear debate) the largest ideology breaking point. As the article states, it was a cornerstone for the liberal parties to join the coalition.

Should these cornerstones be broken? How far should one compromise under rapidly changing circumstances? How many concessions should one do when the country is confronted with a pandemic, a war, environmental issues, soaring inflation? Quite difficult questions, but they are important if you want to have a meaningful and constructive conversation.

The coalition made a deal. Breaking this deal can topple the government. Is this responsible in the current circumstances?
Joining manifestations is one way for politicians to voice their displeasure, and to differentiate between their party views and the (heavily) compromised coalition agreement, while still honoring the made agreement. I personally feel this is important, but I can see not everyone agreeing on this

It is another discussion if the coalition agreement should be changed. It has already been done in the last few years, and I notice the ones calling out on our (a)social media seem to be the ones that are least open for change.

Should politicians from a majority coalition join manifestations? I am not sure. I am also not sure if there can/should never be any exceptions. All I know is that we live in a complicated country, and trying to frame things as black and white is not going to solve our complex problems.

  4. Ridiculous political posturing. Vooruit, PS and Groen/Ecolo occupy 57% of all Vivaldi seats in the Federal parliament.

  5. Don’t the leftist parties get that by doing this they are just feeding the opposition?

If current government only clashes internally and don’t get anything done, people will be sure to vote for the extremist opposition during the next elections and while it’s my personal opinion, an NVA + VB government sounds like hell on earth just as much as a PVDA + anything government.
