Afghan visual artist and sculptor Sanaz Hakimi, who is based in Sweden, is exhibiting three artworks at the international Open Art festival in the Swedish city of Orebro.
Hakimi said on Wednesday, June 17, that the event opened on June 13 and will continue until December 6.
According to her, Open Art is one of Sweden’s most important public and contemporary art exhibitions and is held every two years.
One of her featured works, “Soul of the Mountain,” is inspired by the mountains of Bamiyan and the province’s rich historical and artistic heritage. The piece aims to introduce audiences to a lesser-known part of Afghanistan’s culture and history.
Another artwork, “I Will Rise and Grow Again,” is dedicated to the women and girls of Afghanistan and reflects themes of hope, freedom, resilience, and a better future.
Her third piece, “The Memory Pot,” draws inspiration from Bamiyan’s historical artifacts and explores ideas of memory, culture, and the connection between the past and the present.
Hakimi said that through her work she seeks to build bridges between tradition and contemporary art while highlighting themes of culture, identity, memory, and women’s voices.
Her participation in one of Sweden’s leading art events comes as many Afghan artists continue their creative work abroad after leaving Afghanistan in recent years.
