6/18; 12:30 p.m.—The boil water advisory for the City of Rome public water system has been lifted.
The Oneida County Department of Health approved the removal of the advisory at 12:30 p.m. on June 18, after it was first put in place on June 16.

ROME, N.Y. — Residents in Rome are under a precautionary boil water advisory after a mechanical issue at the City’s water filtration plant.
On June 16, “at approximately 4 p.m., plant personnel identified a mechanical issue and immediately followed established operational protocols. Those procedures included identifying and isolating the source of the issue, implementing corrective actions, conducting system-wide water quality sampling, and maintaining communication with the Oneida County Health Department throughout the process,” according to the Office of Rome Mayor Jeffrey Lanigan.
Officials said initial test results did not require immediate public notification.
“However, after consultation with staff and health officials, Public Works Commissioner Joseph Guiliano determined that issuing a boil water advisory was the prudent course of action out of an abundance of caution to protect public health and safety,” according to the mayor’s office.
The City stated it shared the advisory through local news outlets, its website, social media, and the RomeIQ mobile app.
Residents who have not downloaded RomeIQ are encouraged to do so for emergency notifications and updates.
